The system I will be running is Deathwatch, however I'm doing a homebrew version. You are playing neophytes, not quite human any more, but neither are you yet a space marine.

The Black Templars have different traditions than most other chapters. They are spread out over the galaxy in a number of crusades, fishing the enemies of man, travelling in massive fleets rather than calling any place home. This has led to them recruiting possible candidates from any world they stop at.

Ok now onto the actual character generation.
I believe all but one of you have one book out of the series (deathwatch, rogue trader or dark heresy) so you can do some of this at your leisure.

You start off with 25 in all attributes and have 100 points to spend as you like to upgrade them, no stat may be given more than +20 at this stage.

Those of you with access to rogue trader may select a home world and birthright from those available and adjust your stats as detailed (this may take an attribute over the +20 limit above). Those without access to the rogue trader book have a look at the origin paths at http://fantasyflightgames.com/edge_minisite_sec.asp?eidm=78&esem=4 and think about what home world and birthright you would like.

Character sheet finishing I will run at the club on Monday hopefully before we all split off into games.

You don't have to know the system, but knowledge or willingness to read up on the setting would be preferred.

I should have added more to my post above, but hard to remember everything.

+ Expanded choices of home worlds and birthrights are available, but will need to be ran past me (including those that cost xp, as I will be giving you some starting xp to begin with).

+ I've currently 4 players interested, but as its a forum game, I can run with a few extra players if people want in.

+ Any questions with regards to character generation ask away here and I'll answer as soon as I can.

Im playing in Werefishes Dark Heresy game at the club so I am learning as I go along really but my knowledge is limited however I would be interested in playing, if there is someone more familiar with the system wanting the space though then I'll understand.

Welcome to the game. I know you don't have the books, so check up the link above on the Black Templars and have a think of what type of character you want to play. I'll sit with you and create a character with you on Monday.

You will be effectively playing a heroic level human who through his feats has earned the interest of the Black Templars and a possible place amongst them. Space marines are super human (genetically modified) warriors, that fight the enemies of mankind.

Wow that's a quick response. I'm up to 6 players now, which is my limit on keeping it interesting and not instantly lethal. Anyone else interested will have to go down as an alternative.

Players I've got down, Aaron, Hairy Matt, Werefish, Prostanc3, Jeff and Kosh.

Ok so let me guess this straight, Neophyte is an apprentice of a Black Templar (Initiate) basically?

It confused me when you said they are not quite human... I got Neophyte and Necron mixed up at that point!

Aye neophytes are trainee space marines. You stood out of the human population due to whatever feat and were selected to undergo the changes to become a space marine. first they broke your mind revealing any heresies and then rebuilt it stronger.

You were then put in a coma like state while they put the progenoids in you and sleep trained you the basics of being a black templar. The progenoids are a genetic organ which modifies your body away from being human and into a space marine, with all the changes that entails.

http://kofler.dot.at/40k/marines_organs.html

The point you start at is you've been taught, but these genetic modifications have yet to kick in. (But will be during the campaign).
