Welcome players to "Back in the Village".
I'll be running a rules explanation session on Monday, but I thought I'd introduce a little bit about the game, and how play-by-forum will work. If you've a mind to see the full game rules, I recommend

Don't be put off by the length - the main rules are fairly simple, and the devil is in the combinations of orders that can occur. You don't need to fully appreciate all of them to have a fun game.
Diplomacy is a simultaneous action game. This means that each player submits a set of orders for their pieces to me by a given deadline, and I work out what's happened and post the results here. Each player starts with 3 or 4 pieces, and never has more than 17, so this is not too arduous.
The key to the game is that a player's pieces may give support to another player's pieces, and so forming alliances (and breaking them at opportune moments) is a vital part of the game. For this to work, players must discuss things amongst themselves between turns. It is fully expected that players will lie to each other sometimes.
I propose that the deadline for orders received is mid-day Wednesday. I can then process them and provide the results on Wednesday evening. This will allow plenty of email/pm/facebook/whatever discussion, and some face-to-face time on Monday if wanted as well. I'll try to bring a board and set it up at the club with the current situation every Monday too.
