Please post if you're interested.

Booster Draft. Booster Draft is more complicated than Sealed Deck. Each player at the table starts with three unopened booster packs. Instead of just opening your cards and building a deck, you and the other players at the table have to draft the cards for your decks.

At the start of a Booster Draft, each player opens a pack and picks the card he or she wants from it. (You can’t see the cards that the other players draft.) Then each player passes the rest of the pack to his or her left. You pick up the pack that was passed to you, select a card, and pass the rest to your left. This process continues until all the cards have been drafted.

Next, each player opens a second pack, but this time, you pass the pack to your right. After all those cards are drafted, you open the third pack and pass to the left again. At the end of the draft, each player has forty-five cards-and unlimited basic lands-to build a deck with.

So we would need three packs per player approx cost £9.45:

Above is for illustrative purposes. Would people want any particular block?

Tournament structure to be worked out when we find out how many are in.

booster boxes can be had on ebay for £80, which works out around £2.20 a booster, or £6.60 a booster draft.

Also if you research cube drafting, this is a method of booster drafting using an existing card collection instead of booster packs, but needs one person with a large enough collection to build the cube.

Yeah, I would definitely be interested.  Have no real preference for block, though I do like dedindahed's suggestion of ebay.  Might be worth looking around to see what can be found on there.

Also, yeah, 30th August might be better, since it will be hard to organise for 31st May.

It would be fun to join in, but money is (as ever) an Issue.

So how about:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MTG-10TH-ED...gCards_RL&hash=item563adfe4c3

16 @ about £2.49 ea.

or

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Magic-Gathe...gCards_RL&hash=item439f323e31

36 @ about £1.53 ea. (currently)

9th edition boosters seem to be relatively cheap.

We don't need to actually commit to these, I'm just putting them up for discussion purposes.

If we do decide to go ahead, I don't mind buying them up front, as long as there's a reasonable expectation of getting the money back over time.

It might be an idea for some-one (the club or whoever is organising) to see if they can buy a job lot of basic land, as that way people who have been learning to play but don't have much land of their own can join in.

I have a bucket load and I definitely won't need it all so I'll bring the rest along for people to borrow.

To summarize so far (adding in stuff from last night):

In the Booster draft:

Teflon Billy

Mat (Wolves)

Kamikazegerbil

dedindahed

metagaia?

Cost about £1.50 - £2.50 per booster. So about £4.50 - £7.50 per draft.

Mat (Wolves) & Kamikazegerbil, happy to supply basic lands.

Date 30th August, starting about 3pm? (I'm not sure how long these things generally take).

Please post if anything needs changing.

Best bet at the moment:

That seems doable. You can sign me and shell up as well!

Also, we are going to make contact with Shell's brother who is currently living in our old university town. We're going to ask him to go into the local hobby shop (who has a rediculous back stock of magic cards and very little stock movement) to see if they would do us a deal on a booster box.

We'll let you know how that turns out!
