I was surprised by how much I enjoyed MtG today, and someone suggested on having a tournament for the whole club. Great!

This would probably take up the night- so what do people think about this- should we project a date for it? Do we have enough cards and willing,, generous, handsome card donors?

I believe deadindahead is thinking of organising this if he gets the 2k cards from Tess' friend. The idea is you pay so much to enter, build the deck there from available cards, and keep them after. Plus if you win, you (probably) get a prize of more cards. That way, any one interested would be on a level playing field, and everyone interested would have some cards.

Generally, I think tournaments are fun. Some done with our own decks would be good too. So, I'll volunteer to arrange another one, with own decks (with restricted card lists) and anyone can borrow / beg cards from friends if wanted. There would be a small fee to enter, to cover the prize for the top 3 players.

I'm not going to set a date yet, as I think Dave's idea is a better first tournament, and that can't have a date until he actually has the cards. But we're interested in the tournament idea definately.

We'll see how the cards thing pans out, as it depends on a few conditions,
However, If it doesn't go ahead it may be possible to secure just the booster box for a reasonable fee and we are set to go.

The unhinged stuff could be used to have a very silly tournament if people liked that idea.

if everything falls through I could look at securing a new booster box, but then the tourney would cost a little more... maybe £7-8

I'd be happy to join in with a tournament  Very Happy .

I think we need to be careful about any 'whole club' events though. We may then be asking everybody to pay for something they might not be that keen on.

Probably best kept within the EBMC or similar.

Don't think anyone was going to force someone to join in / pay for a tournament they didn't want to - completely voluntary!

Of course this will be on a voluntary basis,
The only issue is it may disrupt RPG's for one week, if any RP'ers want to join in, though there are some weeks where not much RP'ing happens it may be possible to schedule for minimum disruption.

If we don't get enough players for one big draft we could always do two smaller drafts.

Also if none of this happens I'll do some research into cube drafting, which is kind of like a booster draft but using an existing card collection rather than new booster packs.

I've no interest in a MtG tournament, but if a successful format can be worked out, perhaps a poker tournament could be arranged at some other date?
