A thread dedicated to boardgames that have recently come to people's attention, especially if they're umming and ahhing about investing in them and want how many other potential players are out there. _________________ The absent Simon...
• Innsmouth Escape - The name sounds like a clumsy alternative to Escape From Innsmouth, the Call of Cthulhu sourcebook covering similar territory, the game has one player controlling the Humans, moving covertly, and the others controlling the Deep Ones, trying to pin them down and kill them. Sounds like a cross between Arkham Horror and Fury of Dracula, and was created by a guy who, until recently, worked for Fantasy Flight which produces the above two games. Sounds good in theory, but by default falls into very similar territory to a bunch of other games, except it tries to wrap them up in one game.
• The Age of Gods - The English version of a French game, where the players play one of several gods, each of which influence 24 tribes in a fantasy realm, although success depends on which 4 tribes the god secretly favours. Seems pretty low complexity, a fair bit of bluffing and fantasy warfare. Each god and race has seperate abilities ('races' is a vague term - 'Pirates', 'Sorcerers' and 'Barbarians' are races alongside 'Man', but there are all the traditional fantasy folk like Orcs and High ELves too). Mixed reviews, but in general it sounds pretty cool.
• Pandemic - A co-operative game where all players fight to save the world from world-ravaging diseases that spread city to city. It's the end of the world! Seems to be pretty much cards and wooden blocks on a nice map of the world style board, with fairly simply game-play. Despite its subject matter doesn't get too graphic and bloody about it (but I suppose the players could elaborate on the details if that way inclined).
What does anyone think of these. I'm tempted by the latter too, once I'm got my hands on War on Terror. _________________ The absent Simon...

I have pre-ordered Agricola, the latest hyped-up German game. The theme is farming, which may not sound too exciting, but then again, the idea of Power Grid sounds boring when you first hear it. It's received a number of rave reviews.
Hopefully I should receive it in May/June. _________________ Matt / paz
I've seen it mentioned a lot and given high ratings, so I'll try to check out some reviews when I get time. In general names that mean nothing to mean don't grab my attention - but I guess Settlers has a farming theme, and I quite like the idea of that. Of course, it's not just farming.
