27th July Change of Venue

**See end of thread for updates**

Just so everyone is aware the 27th of July is cancelled, there will be no club that night.  I will update everyone once I have spoken to management.

Just an early warning the club has some refurbishments coming up that will require it to close for 2 weeks.  Don’t know dates I will update once I get them.

Is there any possibility of it being held somewhere else, e.g. Town Crier, churchy place?

Churchy place is booked on a monday and has now parking anyway.  Town Crier is a possability, let me speak to the Deva tonight.

I have spoken to the manager.

The room was booked by mistake as there was a mix up with dates and for various reasons I wont go into here they have decided to honour the booking.  I have made it very clear we are not happy with what has happened and he has apologised.

I also spoken to him regarding the lack of drinks and he was not aware it was an issue and is going to see to it that it does not happen again.

He is willing to close the front bar for us if we want to use it on monday.  It will be sole use for us, what do people want to do?  I want to make a decision by thursday so I can let him know and get the information out,  t is probably an ideal time to do a board games night.

Ugh, most irritating.  Sounds like there is an interesting story behind it anyway  Confused

I am pretty strongly against the front bar idea unless we have no other alternative.  The primary reason we picked the Deva over the Town Crier was because of space.  The front bar certainly has less space in terms of useful gaming; even if we are allowed to play games on the snooker tables, which I doubt or the snooker tables are moved, which I also doubt.

If the town crier will have us I would much prefer there for this week.  If not, then I see little alternative but to accept the offer, but hopefully for free at the very least.  Given how much we have in the kitty though it's hardly a decisive factor.

With the regards to the drinks issue, I'll believe it when I can drink it Rolling Eyes

As my time of regular attendance is looking limited for the future, I'd very much like there to be a club night on monday while i can still make them.... I'm not that fussed about where though.

The front bar might be a little exposed for some people's tastes, and also isnt so much of a sit down area in the same way as the back room but I have never seen the Town Crier's function room so have no idea how it compares.

If it works for people's gaming purposes it might be worth doing the Crier just for one night as it also kindof reinforces the point that we arent absolutely tied to the Deva if certain basic standards arent maintained... though that might not be the best reason to do so Razz

If the front bar is the only option though, I vote we go for it though as I prefer some gaming to none (probs would be board games there due to space etc)
HDimagination

I think I would vote against using the front bar, mostly because of space and I think that it might be difficult for the bars normal regulars to get the idea that it was not available to them.

I don't mind the idea of the town crier, but given that it was announced on monday that no club was on next week, I think that we won't get a very good turn out whatever we decide.
Tess

Hi Guys,

If by 'the churchy place' you mean the Catholic Club it is booked out on occasional mondays, not all and that will have enough space. I won't have time today to find the number and call them though to see if they are free monday coming. we can still park where we usually do, it only a 3 minute walk up the road

I'm pretty much a no for the front bar too, we don't want them thinking they can do it more often cos we'll still go there.
Tess

I lied!

Right, I've spoken to the catholic club and the room is free Very Happy

They've said they usually charge £8 an hour to book the back room but they'll do it for £20 as a one off.

I've not confirmed it but they will hold it for us until they get a definate yes or no.

the number is 01244 321218 and it is at the top end of brook street (the opposite end from the Deva)
Gileh

Lets get the crier. We can put up with the cosier surrounds for just the one week.

I am quite strongly against the front bar due to arsey members of the public and it giving the impression that they can put us anywhere. If churchy place Catholic Club) IS free then why not give it a go if TC isn't, it'd be fun to see somewhere new.
dead

lets use it as a chance to try out the churchy place while we have the cash free.  Tess can you book it please.  I think £8 per hour is a bit much for us to do it regularly and even £20 may be pushing it for a regular, i.e. every week.

Board games as turn outs gonna be low.

Tess, is it this place?

If it works then the catholic club could make a good alternative for when the Deva fails us. Our complaints might have more weight to them if we're not dependant on them.
Teflon Billy

I'm perfectly happy to try the Catholic Club. It'll be interesting to go somewhere new.
Tess

Hi All, the booking is booked!  Smile

and Gileh, thanks for putting those up, thats the place. On the google map the pub is about 1cm to the left of the arrow, its very easy to find and anyone can text me if they get lost, but it is night on impossible!

awww man, that's like an extra 5 mins walk...  Wink

I spent a good 3 mins trying to find out where that place was from the map, before eventually going about one screen north and seeing the large icon with 'Chester station' on it.  Rolling Eyes

Given that last year I managed to spend over an hour trying to find Giulia's house while being on the right road and still failing, you may want to keep your phone on standby Tess  Wink

Great news!

Excellent, I love the idea of trying an alternative to the Deva, seeing as it is probably the saddest, grottiest place I have frequented in quite a while Smile

I assume the parking shown on the map belongs to the place  -I doubt they could host functions without provididng any- and it is ok for us to use it?
dead

The parking at the venue is very limited and not really that safe TBH.  Parking it the main reason I have turned away from the place in the past.

The Deva is closing for 2 weeks in a month or two for a renovation.  We can hope.

Ill be sending out a text message later to let everyone know about the change

Probably the best place to park for the Catholic Club is the Gorse Stacks car park. I've made a Google map to show how to get there from the Deva:

Free Parking

Worth Checking...?
paz

Huh? I think I've missed your point.
Gileh

Well it said there's free parking at Gorse Stacks after 3pm, but I don't know for sure if that's still the case so I was asking if it was worth checking on.
paz

It is; that's why I recommended it.
Teflon Billy

Will the room be open for the usual time?

Very Happy

have ypu explained to the church what we will be doing? Are they ok with us doing role play in their church?
Just wondering because it is a house of god after all and discussing magic and dragons might not go down well.
Shaphron

We are, thankfully, not in America, and that sort of thing isn't normally an issue any more. The vast majority of church people know that we play a *game* and do not believe in the dragons/magic etc that is talked about during play. There are evcen quite large christian gamers groups. I think we don't need to worry about that as an issue.
metagaia

Indeed, unless Jack T. Chick makes a personal appearence at the church, I do not think there will be a problem.

AFAIK the Catholic Church has no official stance on any particular roleplaying game (even F.A.T.A.L.), so unless there are lunatics in charage there (which seems unlikely) then we should be fine.
dead

Dont worry about it, if they have a problem with us they can tell us on the night and we wont go back.  As Shell said this isnt America.

Ian
Gileh

Are we even in a church? I thought we were in a social club.
Tess

Such a shame I didn't get the chance to see all these, to everyone who didn't come along IT IS A PUB!!!! I think someone initially mentioned the words 'churchy place' because they vaguely remembered the word catholic

And to be honest I really quite liked it there, though the table sizes were a bit awkward
metagaia

It was certainly tolerable.  Having a different set of pros and cons to both the town crier and the Deva, it's not an outright loser, but I do definitely prefer the tables in the Deva.  However, I am more than happy to go to such a venue.

Just to confirm, are we back in the Deva for next week?
