Sorry to weigh in after being gone so long. But I read in the other post that there isn't a landlord or CRB issue. So is the age limit all that important?
Don't forget how many of our best members over the years have been 16-18 years old. If an individual causes disruption due to age or whatnot then ban them. But a blanket age restriction? Has it ever been necessary? Surely a club is supposed to facilitate and nurture the hobby for people, not exclude them.
Maybe things have changed alot since I was there. Just throwing in my 10 pence worth

Hope you don't mind but I've split this off from the other thread. Probably needs a thread of its own.

I am in Australia at the moment but I am back on the 21st. This AGM thing, I will be there, I feel pretty strongly about this, I think excluding someone on 'what ifs' is very wrong and can't believe that it would be supported by the majority of members. I mean when you were 16 wouldn't you have loved the opportunity to play games and learn from some fantastic players and GM's?
I won't be voting, as I am not really a regular member anymore, until I get involved in a game .
Is the 10th the first meet after Christmas or is there one before that?
I am keen on returning on a regular basis, not got as many commitments at the moment.
LONG LIVE GAMES!

This is kind of what my committee post was about.
I'm more in favour of an inclusive age policy over an exclusive one,
the club has thrived with under 18 members in the past.
I can see valid arguments on both sides of the debate but I was a little put out that there was no debate, in this case it's only affected one guy we haven't met, but this arbitrary decision could easily have affected a close friend or a family member of a regular.
Though as the next AGM is only a couple of club nights away, I'm happy to leave this one till then.

It was opened up on the forum some time ago with a request from Teflon Billy that anyone with an opinion should express it to him...
With the total lack of response from anyone it was assumed that noone really cared that much and we needed to get back to the poor guy who had been waiting some time for an answer. The choice was to keep things as they currently are.
Like you said, the AGM is not long away so that can be overturned should enough people wish it.

Yeah, we'll have the discussion at the AGM,
but there was definately no thread to discuss this previously....

A thread on the forum is not enough I feel, sometimes the traffic here is simply not representative of the members. I mean how many of the regular members visit here every week? Or even every month, and read everything new?
I know I am not a regular member anymore (hoping to change that in the new year) but I have alot of fond memories of the club and I find it a bit depressing that some people could be denied the chance for similar memories for no legaly binding reason. GAMES FOR THE PEOPLE!

The original thread was here. As you can see, Teflon posted his intention to have a meeting about it there, and you could have easily stated any preferences you had either to him in person or on the forum. I know he locked the thread, but if you felt strongly about it it wouldn't have been hard to start a new thread to discuss it.
Also, I know I wasn't there at the time, but I have been told that the committee meeting *wasn't* private, and that Teflon went round and asked people for their opinions before they had the meeting. If anyone was interested they could easily have joined in the meeting. As I understand it they moved over to a quieter corner of the room so they could hear each other, not to keep it private.
Finally, as the decision was to talk about it further at the AGM, it's hardly a ban, more of a putting off of the decision so the whole club can have a voice - isn't that what they were supposed to do anyway? Wouldn't you prefer it was put off to the AGM, as it's so close, rather than have a disruptive discussion and vote during a normal club night?
I'm simply confused as to why there's such a fuss being made over something that hasn't actually been decided yet, as it's being decided at the AGM by the whole club. Really guys, you're making a fuss over nothing. As the pub apparently has no problem with 16 year olds coming I can't see there being a problem with 16 year olds being accepted, but it is something which should be discussed, as I'm sure some people might have objections.
Well, I'll see you guys in the new year. Have a good xmas everyone!
