An Invite to Nerdkon 2011

Dear Sirs,

This time last year I invited you to Nerdkon, a 36 hour gaming event hosted at Keele University. And this year its back.

Starting at 11.00 on the 19th of November, and ending at 20.00 on the 20th, we have even more games, even more anime, even more scifi, and most of all: even more nerdiness.

We have a facebook group located conveniently here: https://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=175399365818948

We are looking to post more information about what games we have being run, also what games are going to be on consoles, lan, any competitions etc on the fb page and also via the email (which i can add you to the list if you post an email address either here on to the fb page).

If any of you have suggestions on games, or wish to run one yourselves (which we are more than happy to encourage) then let us know.

I know some of you were able to stay up through the last event, and i hope to see more of you powering through this year!.

Regards
Tj
Tess

Guys - this was brilliant last year, I think everyone who went had a great time, so if there's space for your diary this comes highly recommended!!
metagaia

Yeah, I had a great time last year and will happily do it again this year!
Teflon Billy

Sadly I've got unavoidable dull stuff on that weekend  Sad  .
Kamikazegerbil

Everyone who went last year was very enthusiastic about it. Not missing out again. I'll be there! Very Happy
Death Jester

Sounds good to me, can I get a lift with someone?
Gileh

Can't do sundays iz sad face
dead

Its in my diary and everything!

Can get 5 in my car comfortably, will need to split fuel.

Ian

Currently thinking about this. I could only make it for the Sunday last year; I got the impression that the Saturday had more going on, and everyone was a bit tired by the second day. I ended up mostly playing board games with CGC people, plus one rather odd superhero game.
rafe

Dear Sirs,

I am rather pleased by the enthusiasm you have for this Very Happy.
Yes the sunday last year was a little tired, however we are organising more for this year.

I think the odd superhero game was a Mutants and Masterminds, and believe me oddities will be in more plentiful supply this year Very Happy

Regards

I have it booked off work so I can make it.  I have spaces for 5(including me) and am happy to drive.  Who wants a lift?

Do we need to book/pay in advance?  Cant get to facebook from here

Ian
dedindahed

I'm going, happy to drive, or join another car, although I'm insisting on going via the beer emporium in sandbach.

Im fine with that  Shocked just looked it up, didnt know it was there

Ian
Death Jester

I am in need of transportation, looking forward to it!
Mat

I am interested in this but unsure if I can make it.
Is pre-booking required or do we just turn up?
Tess

Dedindahed - can I take up one of those car seats? I want both tasty beer and more discussion on catapulting squirrels!!  =D
Kamikazegerbil

I will be in need of transportation with whoever has the space and wants my petrol money. This beer emporium sounds interesting.
Death Jester

dedindahed: Can I call Shotgun? Very Happy
metagaia

I will probably need transportation also.

For the record, I prefer the back seat (easier to sleep).
Tess

Damn it! I should have yelled first  Sad
I don't wanna be covered in meta's sleepy drool!

Can I get shotgun one way and DJ the other?
metagaia

hey! That is premium grade drool!  A lot of people would jump at the chance Wink
rafe

Dear Sirs,

The event is technically a no alcohol event. however unless you look like your drunk, we will turn a blind eye Razz. (but security guards may get a bit tetchy if they see the beer that isnt sold in the SU during business hours)  but apart from that there is no problem from us.

We did the beer emporium run last year, and left the beer in the car, it's more about picking up some quality/unusual beers than loading up for nerdkon.

It would be good if it were possible to bring drinks purchased at the bar into the area though, even if it were restricted to certain areas (cinema area being a likely candidate) Compulsary returning of glasses to the bar area would be sensible though.
dead

Can we sort out who is going and driving first Wink
annoyinglizardvoice

Does anyone have more details about what is actually going on (the facebook group is a little too vague for my tastes)? I know I won't be able to do the whole thing and am trying to work out if it's worth me coming down for just the Saturday.

Meh, sort the important stuff first!

Games at Nerdkon 2011

The RP games are a bit harder to pin down as we'll only know for certain what they are a few days before, but I can tell you that there will be:

Pathfinder
DnD 3.5
NWoD
Mutants and Masterminds

Other things on is the 36 movie marathon, switching between films and anime movies. Another screen with TV seriers and anime. Halo, CoD, Mario cart, Super Smash Bro and a few other consol game tornies.

The LAN with have Diablo 2, Warcraft 3, CnC: Zero Hour, Hogs of War, Minecraft creative contest, TF2, L4D2, Ace of Spades, Quake arena and a few more. All install files for these will be there, but if you can install them prior to turning up that would be awesome.

And a cosplay torny
Tess

A bit of extra info for those who need it, let me know if you want any other details:

It's £5 entry. No booking neccesary but a heads up as to numbers would be nice. Since this is a non stop event, so as far as accomodation goes you should bring sleeping bags and sleep whenever you feel like. It did work last year but realistically you shouldn't be sleeping anyway. Smile
dedindahed

Looks like I will be driving, and taking aaron, tess and matt.

That does leave a space if someone needs it,

Who else is going?
dead

Erm...me!
Kamikazegerbil

Chris also confirmed he'll be going but isn't sure where he stands on transport just yet.
dead

I wont be able to afford to drive down by myself, I need to split the cost.

Ian
Fenix

Thinking I might go for this, just a lot on this weekend. If I do go its a Saturday only.
metagaia

Ok, there is about a 10% chance I will be able to make my own way down, but it is looking increasingly unlikely, so it is best to assume I need transport.

Am willing to travel to any pick up point required and willing to pay whatever petrol money required, I just need to go!  Crying or Very sad
Death Jester

Dead and Metagia-
Will it be cost effective enough split between the two of you? Or do you need more people to be able to go?
dead

I can no longer make this, have builders in to do some emergency work:(
metagaia

I definitely cannot secure a car for myself now

looks imploringly at dedindahed...
dedindahed

ok, looks like I'll be picking up chris en route also, so that makes it one car, 5 passengers.
Tess

In which case I make the arguement for shotgun on the grounds of having a bigger bum!
Tess

Righty then - I have lost my phone so no last minute planning for me!

What time do I need to wake up for tomorrow to catch the happy train to nerdkon?
dedindahed

I'll drop by at 9:45 ish,
chris it will be another 45 mins or so after that.
Tess

Thank yoooou! You are an angel in a cunning and convincing disguise  x
metagaia

Right on mr Dave.  Do you want me to wait at hartford station?

Also, my bum is bigger than Tess's.
dedindahed

And we're down to 4 now anyway
dedindahed

oh and we can pick you up from your place chris.
Milly

You guys still there for the Sunday? I was busy today (having to make sure to get work done on my Masters' research proposal, before I start my new job a week on Monday), but should be able to make it tomorrow!
Tess

Was good to see you there Milly, sorry we didn't get to chat much. I did try to say good bye but you were engrossed in your (computer) game and I didn't wanna inturrupt.
Its good to hear you'll be back in the area soon - you'll love the new venue!!
