Announcement from WotC

I'm not sure if anyone else has picked up on this, but Wizards of the Coast announced on Monday that they are currently planning the 5th edition of DnD, which was apparently noteworthy enough to make the New York Times:

Reading between the lines, it basically looks like they're trying to patch the schism caused by the resease of 4e, and aim to prevent a similar issue in the future by including player input and playtester feedback into the design process (which, oddly enough, was exactly the strategy Pathfinder took back in 2008...)

Thoughts?

It's good that they're going into this with player feedback from the start. From what I understand, a lot people got annoyed with the last system because WOTC weren't really listening to feedback.

One rumour I heard is that the system could be more modular, with small rulesets that let GMs customise the game like the Hacks for world of darkness or armour-as-damage reduction for pathfinder. So if you want a more political game, there's rules for social combat, or if you want a domain ruler type game, there's rules for running a town etc. Whether that's true at this stage or just a rumour, it'd be interesting to see.

Now that I'd like to see.

I'm not sure what to think to be honest. I've signed up to for play-testing out of curiosity though so may run some one-shots once that gets going if I get the chance.
