Apocalypse WorldI'd like to have a go at running some Apocalypse World if anyone's interested. It's basically a gritty, post-apocalyptic RPG of survival and scarcity.
Not run it before so there'll be a learning curve for everyone, but if there's three of four people who want to give it a go I'll run it for a bit and see how it goes down.
A bit more information (character playbooks and forums) can be found at http://apocalypse-world.com/
cheers

Cool.
I'll get the playbooks and quick reference sheets printed up anyway so it's ready to go if and when there's enough players.

sounds interesting, more than tempted.

I should point out that I'm committed to Phil's game for the next 1-2 weeks but free after that.

Hi Matt,
After talking about it with you last week, I'm certainly interested in giving it a go. I'm not entirely sure how I'd get on with it, as it sounds like you have to go for full immersion roleplaying (i.e. true roleplaying the character, as opposed to controlling the character - which is the way I usually go at it).

Cool. I'll be there tonight to talk about the game a bit more for those who are interested, and maybe discuss timings for when everyone's freed up.
@thefatorc
Hi Steve,
Great. I think controlling the character ('Character Stance' in nebulous rpg jargon) is a big part of AW. The main principle is 'make your characters real people' - up to you how you do that.
Thanks all

Okay, so it looks like we have 4/5 players:
Paz (Matt) thefatorc (Steve) Skumshaman (Pete) and Liam. And then a provisional place for Milly. That's cool - four or five is a good number.
The plan is to kick things off in a fortnight (Mon, June 6). Any questions or stuff, feel free to drop me a pm.
Cheers,
Matt

I'm really looking forward to this.
Any idea at the moment how long this will run for?

...If its not going to run for more than about 6 weeks I'd love to join in - assuming there is still space!

No real idea how long this will run for. Maybe 6 weeks, maybe 8, maybe 15. Who knows! Happy to play it by ear depending on how things are going.

coolI will not be there this week but will be there for character creation on the ninth.

Hi all,
So we got 5 confirmed players (Liam, Matt, Pete, Steve, Tess) and the game's full and ready to go.
Hope we can make it work

Thanks for the game, was a lot of fun. I have written a background for Chapel If you're interested.

@skumshaman
Thanks Pete, enjoyed running it and my mind has been mulling over possibilities as what might set things rolling this week.
Something I omitted to point out in the blur of world and character creation and stuff. Here's what the book has to say about being a player in AW: Your job is to play your characters as though they were real people in whatever circumstances they find themselves in - cool, competent, dangerous people, but real.
Backstory. Ideas and enthusiasm are awesome, but pre-written backstory is a concept that doesn't suit AW. It may be that Ivy, Fernandez, Whitmont or me has stuff to say about Chapel's past, in the same way that The Colonel has already established that you stole an assault rifle from the armoury.
Things from your past will be established in play, sometimes by you, sometimes not. We can't be competing with backstory for legitimacy. Flexiblility and openness to the possibilities are key. The game is about shaking out and discovering that stuff.
Hope that didn't come across too gnarly! Ping me a PM if you have any questions.
Cheers,
Matt

Thanks all for another great session last night.
By the way, Apocalypse World is being spotlighted as the RPG of the week over at RPGGeek:

I'm unlikely to be at the club on 18th July; I'll have been at PaizoCon UK all weekend and will probably be all RPGed out.

Liam

I probably won't be able to come that night either.

Given than Liam and Matt are definitely away tomorrow, and uncertainty over whether Pete can make it, I think a break from the Apocalypse for a week is in order.
Hope to see you all on the 26th.

Guys (and gals) - really sorry about this but I just found out I have to go to London next Monday (the 25th).
Hopefully we can pick things up on Aug 1.

I've just found out I probably need to travel to Switzerland with work on 8 August (nowhere near as glamorous as it sounds) so I'll probably miss that week, unfortunately.

I believe that I have the limited edition playbook for the Hoarder, although I don't have access to it at the moment.

What's the outlook for this game? We've missed the last few weeks for a variety of reasons (I think our last session was 1st Aug).
I know that Tess, Liam and I are meant to be in the second week of a two-week game this week (The Ragnarok D6 game), as we needed to play something last week.

Hi guys, and sorry about the absence.
Work means I'm struggling to get over to Chester at anything like a reasonable time at the moment, so unfortunately I can't guarantee being there to run AW on a regular basis.
As such, I think it's best to call it a day so everyone knows where they're at.
Many thanks for the enjoyable, surprising evenings of suppressed coups, rampant drug dealing, random violence and enforced cannibalism. It was a blast, and I learned a lot while attempting to muddle through it!
Cheers,
Matt
