Bonjour =)

Hi !

I'm Laura from Wrexham. I'm a french student struggling to find a work in 3D modeling and animation in United Kingdom... What ? Oh, i'm confused, i thought that was a Monster of a TotalJob forum. Well, i'm here now, so i'll introduce myself though. =)

I had my 22nd birthday two days ago. I'm quite new about board games / roleplaying games. I started about two years ago with Warhammer Roleplay (first and second editions). Before that, i was more on RPG video games (and i'm still) and online games (World of Warcraft, etc). I always watched my friends painting figurines in high school but boys never accepted me in their group... T___T

Star Wars is probably my favourite world thought video games like KOTOR and the Star Wars Roleplaying Game Saga Edition Core Rulebook is a part of my collection, few other books as well. But i never played it (no real experience as a Game Master). I was very interested in Hollow Earth Expedition, Warhammer 40,000 Roleplay : Rogue Trader and Polaris (the third edition) which is french game i guess. So many things i wanted to play but without occasions ! About board games, i really like cooperative games like Pandemic and zombies / survival games. But still, i don't have a lot of experiences.

The problem is... i'm french and i'm not exactly fluent for now. I found Chester Games Club on Google, trying to find some events about games. I would like to watch a roleplaying night but i'm not sure i could play. You would be bored / offended if i spent hours to make you repeat !

Don't worry, i can understand almost everything written but speaking with people is still difficult for me because of accents, but i try ! ^^

Hi Laura. welcome to forums!

Don't worry about being new or being new to RPGS (though you sound like you have more experience than when I started), there are plenty of new people at the moment across the whole spectrum of RPG and board game experience.

I don't foresee any problem with you sitting down and watching, and there will probably be a board game around with simple enough rules that language difficulty will not be a problem.

Assuming you can find the Chester hangman ok, people normally start to appear about 6:30, though at that stage the numbers aren;t great and board gaming itself sometimes might not start until after 7.  If you ask the barman where the games club are, he (or she) will happily direct you to them.

Hope to see you soon!

Welcome, I hope to see you in club.

If you're interested in getting involved in a roleplaying game I'd happily invite you into my World Of Darkness game. I'm hoping to start running in a few weeks. If you're interested just let me know in club (I've long hair and a goatee beard and wear a corderoy jacket) or PM me here.

One idea that could help if you're worried about the language getting in the way. In systems where it would be appropriate, why not simply play a French character. That way, the language barrier would be a character trait and would fit into the game perfectly. I did something similar with a friend who had a stutter by simply letting him create a character with a stutter and it worked suprisingly well.

As Chris says I wouldn't worry about it, we've got lots of new people at the moment.

Welcome  Very Happy .

'why not simply play a French character. That way, the language barrier would be a character trait and would fit into the game perfectly.'

That is an utterly brilliant idea.

Bienvenue au club des jeux, Laura.

Thank you ! So, the board games are tomorrow, in the Chester Hangman ? I saw on the internet it was every Monday.

I should have answered few days ago but i was thinking about coming tomorrow, just to see and check if i can play board games, if it's possible, or even just talk with people. That will be a good test for me. =)

I would really enjoy to play World of Darkness, but i need to say i don't have any car. So i rely on the train to go back to Wrexham (the last train is at 11 PM i guess). But except that, i definitely want to try !

Oh ! And i like Firefly too ! =)

EDIT : In fact, the last two trains are at 11 PM, and 0.15. So that will be okay. =)

That's no problem, I have to leave at 10:40pm myself to make it for my last train as I need to get back to Birkenhead.

We can discuss character ideas tonight in club, I am however already in a game tonight, a two-part game carried over from last week. But that game doesn't start until 8pm.

Yes, the club should be on tonight as normal. The club takes place in the room upstairs; when you go into the pub, go through the doors almost straight ahead of you.

There are (almost) always board games going on; it's probably a good idea for your first week or two, as it will let you meet a few people and work out what kind of game you want to play.

Unfortunately I won't be there tonight, but welcome to the club and hope to see you in the next few weeks!
Calladan

Okay. Thank you. I think i'll be there tonight, at about 6.30. See you tonight, guys ! =)
Tess

Hi Laura!

Both the board games and the RPGs are on Mondays just in case thats got confused at all. And I wouldn't worry about the language, you probably speak English better than some of the British-born members already  ;p

See ya tonight!
