Children of Fides

Children of fides is a small group that has just been set up in the chester gaming club. Here is abit of back story of our group so u can all see what our group is on about...

Leabarn was a small village full of homely people, the men were mainly farmers and the woman looked after the homes. One winter, a child returned after being in the forest, he fell seriousely ill and sadly died. A week later another young boy fell ill, within days ten people fell sick with disease. Ten quikly turned into 20 and then 100 before almost all of the town was ill. Only five men had not got the illness, two of the elder men went out into the forest to find the cause of the disease but they only returned with the same illness themselves. Slowly people took too ill and sadly started to die. Only one member of the village remained well, he was a humble farmer called famril (can change name) and he was sent out to seek another village and to consult those on the matter. This farmer was not given information of where another village was but only not to go through the forest.
After sixty days famril returned but he returned a different man. There was a certain aspect of the devil in him, but at the same time god could be seen in his eyes. Famril said he had met light and that he had met dark and together he heard a message, this message was that with death their must be life. Famril sed he had taken twenty seven lifes on his journey, and therefore could only save twenty seven villagers. He saved fourteen women and thirteen men. Famril had been given the power of combat and the power of healing. Famril taught the lesson of that if a life is taken then one must be given, and if a life is given then one must be taken, he sed his mission in life is to keep the balance. As time went by the villages lives returned to normal, even Famril returned to farming.
Exactly a year on from the day Famril returned he sed to the rest of the villagers he must leave, he did not say why or where he was going just that one day he may return. Before he left he touched every villager on the chest and sed u have the power to balance the world. It was after he left that the villagers learnt that the males had been given the power of combat and that the females had the power to heal. The villagers talked about there gained abilitys and the teachings of Famril. It was then that they decided if children were to be born then death would come aswell, and therefore they shant have children and will never die so they could wait for Famril to come back and tell them what to do.
Centuries went by and the villagers that where saved still remained alive and they had not aged a day since Famril had left. As time went on the villagers started to build shrines to there savour and gave themselves names. The males called themselves the brothers of nagi or the Brothers of dark, the females called themselves The Sisters of lux, or the sisters of light. It was after 457 years after Famril had left when the villagers started to think they had got his teachings wrong and it was that if a life was taken then a life must be saved and if a life was saved then so must one be taken. This then meant that the villagers could give birth.
Thirteen children were born and these helped the original villagers to build a temple to Famril. It was found out that the children each gained the power to heal and the power of combat no matter of their sex. It was also found out that the children had long lifes although they did all die of old age. The youngest died at 97 whilst the eldest at 123 years old. After all the children passed away the villagers gave birth to more children, eleven in all. It was decided that the children should be called the children of Fides or the Children of faith.
It was decided that the children should go out into the world and set up a new temple some where out of the village, the children where told about Famril and told to preach his teachings where ever they went. The children where given three tasks when they left, they where to set up a new temple, to convert and finally to keep the balance.

alternate background

I wanted to spend a little time on the Children's background to see if I could introduce a reason for us to hate the undead (plus i was bored in work) and give a little more about the philosophy we live by.

What do people think to what I have written below I started out rewriting Daz's work to include undead and ended up redoing it all. Can someone who is a little better at fiction then me have a go , I figure if we all post our ideas and then take the best from each we should get something good.

This is not a replacement for Daz's work, I want to get some more ideas before we settle on something.

It started with the outlying farms, the occupants would disappear, sometimes never returning sometimes a single family member would be found, terrible wounds on the body. Then the villages were hit one by one, first a few houses would be burnt then an entire village would go. The few survivors would rave of the people who attacked them, former friends wasted and corrupted. Eventually the people of the valley retreated into the only town, Leabarn. its walls were low, with no moat and few real warriors. Runners were sent to the people of ???? (errin or cymria?) on the best horses, the best scouts were sent. Only one returned floating down the river his body bloated.

A warrior arrived at Leabarn, wounded and bleeding. He claimed his name was Brother Fides, he did not say where he was from. By now the few warriors were dead or injured, the walls guarded by young boys and old men and the food was running low. The townsfolk nursed Brother Fides, hoping he was a sign that hope was on its way.

Brother Fides suffered from a terrible fever lasting many days. Eventually the fever broke, and within the day his wounds healed themselves miraculously, all but his left hand which had been severed by a terrible blow. Brother Fides walked the walls of the town and saw the defenses were about to break. He told the story of a wounded man and a dead horse, how he and hit brothers were journeying to the land of the dragon to speak to the God King. They came to the aid of the town but all but brother Fides fell to the creatures surrounding it.

Brother Fides rallied the defenders, he armed the women of the Leabarn, and gathered the children for water carriers. And the town marched to where the evil had started. There were many battles, many were killed and wounded. Those that were wounded brother Fides healed, and many of them found that in turn the ancestors had granted them the power to heal. At the last desperate battle at the foot of a tower long abandoned by the people of the valley Brother Fides and many of those who had discovered the power to heal entered the tower leaving the rest of the townspeople holding the plain to prevent the returning hordes from stopping them. Brother Fides battled the creature which had summoned the hordes outside, the creature struck him down but with his last strength he injured the creature. This allowed the reaming warriors within the tower to destroy the creature but their powers exhausted they could not save Brother Fides.

The few survivors of the tower were heroes to the townspeople, they became known as the brothers of Fides, their children are the children of Fides.

During his time with the people of Leabarn brother Fides taught them the philosophy of his brothers.

He taught that any person had the power to balance the world, and that only in balance could the world survive.

For every life taken a brother must save one life, good or evil.

No creature is truly evil, nor is any truly good no matter what is claimed. All have a good and a bad side, life is really about shades of grey.

The children try to live by that philosophy there is only one thing that is truly important to the children of fides, unity in adversity (and killing any undead they happen to run into)

ive just read ians story and im happy to go with that, the only thi9ng i would like to add is the possibility of longer life. This is something we can talk about. Also i think we should all have a personal story and background but we will all have to decide on that once we have the main story sorted. Finnaly at the gathering i think we should have a ceromony welcoming mike and also for the loses of the previouse charactors. With us having two months to create one i think we can definatly put on a show. I mean we have some of the drama students hawarden high have to offer. If we can pull off a ceromony it will get us known.

dead

That sounds like a couple of volenteers to sort that out Very Happy I have already told the Green Company that there will be a Wake for the Dead at the Gathering.

Kit wise after the moots can Josh and Daz have a look at the surcoats. We want a way of making them from heavier material so they will survive longer. Its going to cost us a fortune to do it as we are now. I will chat to you about ideas. Me an Geoff are gonna be busy sorting out another set of armour and the helmets.

The story of Brother Phedes

The lands surrounding the town of Leabarn were mainly used for farmers to raise cattle and grow crops. Just across the river lived a man named Calick and his three teenage daughters. Calick was an unpopular man as he was Leabarn’s tax collector, and everyone believed him to be greedy and often took more than what was required, even the noble houses of Leabarn disliked him. Unfortunately one of Calick's daughters died of an unknown illness. No body turned up to her funeral and Calick was left to grieve on his own. After a short time Calick found his daughter’s grave had been disrupted and the body had been taken.
Calick was distraught and headed straight to the towns militia demanding the heads of whoever had done this, unfortunately though the militias efforts to find the culprit came up short. A month or so later Calick returned home from his work to find his dead daughter standing over the limp bodies of his other two daughters. Calick fled his house seeking shelter behind the walls of Leabarn. He explained to the towns elders what he had seen and the Elders then sent the militia to sort out the problem. Once the militia had crossed the river they learnt that the situation was much worse than expected.
It seemed that the graveyard had been completely upturned and there was not a body in sight. Fearing for the worse the militia set up a strong guard in the nearby village of Teemouth. That night just as the militia had feared the zombified corpses of the graveyard attacked the village. The militias fought bravely but most were lost. After the first attack the remaining villagers were escorted into the safety of the town’s wooden defenses. Everything the undead killed or injured seemed to turn into the same shambling zombies that had attacked them.
The town was attacked most nights but during the day there was not any undead to be seen. The Towns defenses worked well at keeping the undead out but with more and more people seeking hostage in the walls the towns supplies started to run short. After much discussion between the town elders and nobles it was decided to send out three messengers, these would be the town’s fastest riders each carrying a letter asking for help from the surrounding provinces. Weeks passed and none of the riders returned, all hope was lost until one day when party gathering water found a live body flouting down the river. The party checked the body for any signs of bites but none were found. The body was brought into the town and was finally brought into consciousness. He claimed his name was Brother Phedes, he did not say where he was from. By now the few warriors were dead or injured, the walls guarded by young boys and old men and the food was running low. The townsfolk nursed Brother Fides, hoping he was a sign that hope was on its way.
Brother Phedes suffered from a terrible fever lasting many days. Eventually the fever broke, and within the day his wounds healed themselves miraculously, all but his left hand which had been severed by a terrible blow. Brother Fides walked the walls of the town and saw the defences were about to break. He told the story of a wounded man and a dead horse, how he and his brothers were journeying to the land of the dragon to speak to the God King. They came to the aid of the town but all but brother Fides fell to the creatures surrounding it.
Brother Fides rallied the defenders; he armed the women of the Leabarn, and gathered the children for water carriers. Brother Phedes led a scout party out of the town to follow the undead after an attack. From doing this Phedes learnt where the undead creatures were going during the day. It seemed that they were returning to an old abandoned watch tower in the woods. Whilst scouting the area Phedes saw a man dressed in black robes walking amongst the undead but wasn’t being attacked. Phedes returned to the town and explained his plan to the nobles and elders. The plan was to have an army of remaining militia and soldiers fight a battle outside the town’s walls. Whilst this was happening Phedes was to lead a small party into the woods and kill the man dressed in black robes. Before the battle was to take place Phedes asked the men to injure every woman in the town, at first the people refused but Phedes promised all would be ok. Once all the women were hurt and injured he stood over them and healed them to good health. Everywoman Phedes healed then gained the power to heal themselves. Phedes left them with this gift and then left the village with his party before night fall. The main battle force was led by a villager called Hewitt Gates. During the battle many were killed and wounded. Those that were wounded the females of the town healed, and many of them got up and fought the undead again. With the army continuously being healed back to health they managed to beat the undead creatures. Fernat Price one of the town’s nobles ordered the woman and children to burn all the bodies on the field so they may never become undead again. With this happening Price then took all the healthy males able to fight to the watch tower to aid Brother Phedes. Price would not let any woman come along and this would turn out to be a great mistake. When the party arrived the saw a fight up at the top of the tower. Brother Fides battled the man who had summoned the hordes outside, the creature struck him down but with his last strength he injured the creature. This allowed the reaming warriors within the tower to destroy the creature but females present nobody had the power to save Brother Phedes from death.
After the man was killed the men carried the body of Brother Phedes back to the town. A great meeting was held with representatives of the people of both Leabarn and Teemouth. During the meeting down to popular demand the nobles lost there powers over the court and town matters. It was decided that the running of the town and village would be left to the council of elders. The town started to worship Phedes like an ancestor and erected a huge statue of Phedes in the centre of the town.

An account of events by Archon Price

The making of the children

With the town being led by the council of elders, it was decided that a small military force should be set up, this small force was full of men and was called The Brothers of Phedes. Working along side this group the elders set up a healers unit of woman called the Sisters of Phedes. Over the years the people of Leabarn gave birth to children and it appeared that the children of the villagers had gained the powers to heal. The town of Leabarn did not interact much with the outside world as they had no need but the children of the village and town wanted to see more, this was he making of the Children of Phedes. The Children of Phedes a led by the eldest who is present although every member has their own role. A small party of the children of the villagers went away from the town and joined the Dragons faction army. They follow the dragons army to where ever they go but often return home to let the town no of what is happening on the dragons land. The Children our wanting to expand their knowledge and are looking to find the meaning of what it is to be a Dragon.
