Door policy.I think we need to have some consideration into what we do about separating known newcomers and random blokes who just come in out of curiosity from the bar.
The bloke on Monday wasn't horrendous but he was a bit intense (he sat himself down at the Crimson Throne game for about half an hour).
Henry reported that he had apparently gone back to the bar and he and his mates were having a laugh about the people at the club.
Suggestions:
1. Sign on the door: Room hired for private function.
2. Anybody coming in is asked to speak to a member of the committee and not permitted to just walk around the room with intentions unknown.
It does concern me that some of the clientele at the Deva seem more than a little on the dodgy side.

Never, which one?
Ill have a chat with the manager about a members only sign or something, I did mention it to him when we moved back but I never did anything about it.

Take your pick, there are plenty to choose from.

Hmm, if there is such a sign, I at least would like it to have what the club is on it, rather than just "Private funcion." When I first came down to the club, I didn't announce myself on the forums first, and would probably of found it a little more intimidating if there was a big "member's only" sign on the door. Somehow it just doesn't seem as welcoming

why don't WE put a sign on the door, wouldn't take much surely? (a4 paper- "chester games club, private functuion"
also if some guy is intimidating a table and there is 25 of us in a room, then maybe we should unite. I do not like to get involved, when i don't have to, but i can imagine how imitidationg this could be!
Elected commitee, i hate to say this, but this may be one of them jobs where you have to get involved. If sombody asked me to stand up and be counted, i would not hesitate in standing next to a commitee member who politely explains that this is a private function. I'm sure if there was a few more people standing there then that may feel a little intimidating to the stranger?
Did we even get subs off this guy

I saw the guy come in but he didnt seem to be a problem.
The sign will have chester games on it as Im printing it out. Will need to "ask" the manager first as its only polite

my only objection is that it makes us look like an organised bunch.
i was thinking i could borrow my 3 year old's thick crayola's and write it on some torn paper, after spilling juice on it.
(thats a joke by the way. very nice, well done, top job)

That said, can I colour it in with the caryola?

Late in the night, when people are split up and spread out into games, it's easy for randoms to sneak past- especially if they want to sneak in to take the piss.

To be fair everyone was pretty much deeply involved in the game they were in, no new faces were expected and I'm guessing people just thought the sound of the door was someone going for a drink or some other matter.
But that is just my opinion and view on things, if this is incorrect it is purly my opinion based on the facts which were available to me at the time.

Hiya,
I wasn't there at this particular incident but have been at others, and generally gone to talk to 'lost looking person' fairly shortly after.
I think it will always be good to expand our club (and thanks to robin for introducing a couple of his mates) and maybe the sign could be made a bit more welcoming for those who are looking to join whilst still obviously putting off those who are not.
Not very inspired as to what to put on it in that case, but I often have a short attention span, and would probably have read the sign down to 'Private Function...' and assumed i was in the wrong place.

The difficulty is in not being unfriendly but still trying to deter spectators and piss takers. If we say 'please come in!' some people will take that as a n invitation to come in and disrupt things. So perhaps we can keep the sign's wording as it is (unless people can suggest an alternative), and the club image at the top and larger so legitimate peeps and newbies know they are in the right place?

yeah, happy with that - if the logo and club name is the first thing people read then those who are in the right place will know its the right place

Looks good to me, although in the interest of being friendly, I might make the "chester games club" bit bigger than the "room hired for private function" bit.

I tried that and it didn't sit right, although that might have been the effect of looking at it for too long. But now you have photoshop you can cut it up and shrink the text down!

Something like this?
(removed due to the file host)
(click for full size)
Apologies as I simply stole what Gileh had made and rejigged it as I was bored.
Incidentally to resize things in photoshop, as with anything the layers are of paramount importance, so if you have the correct one active, all you need to do is select the area in question, then right click on it and press "free transform" and then the usual resize and reshape bits (as well as rotate) should appear.
Unless I've managed to forget something in the past few seconds since I finished making my rip-off sign, which is entirely possible.

That looks friendlier - we're placing more importance on who we are than on saying we've booked the room, which was what I wanted.
Tried selecting the bit I wanted to resize, then went to the corner so I oculd make it bigger like on all other picture manipulation programs I have used, and it didn't let me resize. I oculd move the damn picture about, but not change it's size. I went over all the tools in all the silly hidden menus I could find, and couldn't find a resize tool. Did never occur to me to right click it, as this is abnormal in my experience, and if it had I wouldn't have realized "free transform" would let me resize it. Obtuse program.
Thanks for the hints tho!

it can be a bit confounding at times
I'm sure theres a quicker way of resizing, but that just the way that I know how. I'm told its actually quite efficient once you know the ins and outs of it, though I have yet to get anywhere near that level...

I'm happy with both of those - as long as the emphasis is on who we are, rather than go away!!!
though, just in case noone else noticed... anyone else a little shocked by what JimZ picture site considers to be 'similar images'??!?!??!'

Yes, very.
JimZ I recomend Photobucket for future use. It allows you to link directly to the image so nothing but the picture loads up when you follow the link.

I normally do use it, but I couldnt remember my password at the time, so looked for something that didnt require an account to upload (hence the slightly less reputable site )
anyhoo, reupped and hopefully clean of anything but the picture:
