help with a new idea for a game i wanna run.

ive got a story and plot in my head at the moment and i quite fancy trying to run my first game. Now allthoguh i have the plot i dont have a system to run it on. If i give a brief overview of what its about would somebeody beable to suggest a system it run on?

Its modern day, minimal to some combat. Realistic in the fact that if you brake the law and are caught you will be arrested and if youre character cant afford to do something then it aint gona happen. There may be some room for guns althoigh again would be minamal.
Any suggestions to a generic system that would allow that? Prefebly id like a system somebody has so i can ask questions and also being incredibly cheeky but to potentaily borow to have a read through. or if anyone knows of a free downlaod that would be good to.

Any help would be apreciated.

(i know ive made loads of gramatival and spelling mistakes but im really not arsed. Ive been awake for nearly 30 hours now and i dont think my body can hack much more)

Silhoette System - Very quick to play and learn, I can lend you the books, I could probably photocopy the main rules as they cover a whole 8 pages odd and the system is out of print I think.  Good to start you off

Milleniums End -  Ultra realistic but slow to play and learn.  I like but only for small groups, think riddle of steel for modern day.  Again I can lend you books.

coool can you bring them on monday. Its a similar thing to the idea i had a while ago but i just kinda let that fizzle out so hopefully if i can something simple to start with it would be great. Id only want a small group to start with anyway. aprox 3/4 players.

cheers

Will bring them both along next week.  Run it after the next session of riddle,  or do it at mine one night.

yeh thats fine, are we riddle on monday?
is the silouette system heavy gear? and is that gurps?
just found a free download on net noe of simple gurps rules.

Silhouete is heavy gear, the gurps rules are a later addition for heavy gear when it was bought out.  The silhoette system is the D6 based system I run stuff using regularly.

Yup Riddle is monday I believe.

If its gonna be a fairly short game I'd like to play

When in doubt I use the percentile system.

Someone there will have a copy of the CoC rulebook. I have used this many times to adapt for an idea.

As far as the %ile system from Cthulhu, I've got a pdf of the whole BRP system which is pretty modular and can be made to work with modern settings quite easily (or anything for that matter) so I can send you a link to it if you want.

Though not in a print copy, so using Silhouette will probs work pretty well as you'd have a physical reference for things... If Ian's game of "Doomed" from the game shuffle week is any indication, its quick, streamlined and easy... and more importantly, because its not a system players will know the ins and outs too well necessarily (the basics are easy though) you can probs fudge things if needed (not saying Ian did.... but some of those rolls seemed to be a case of "welllllll that was a good roll but.... nah, that didnt work, you fall on your face instead" and we just went with it, and tbh it worked great)

Another simple rules system that I have a pdf for, but have never personally used that is apparently good and quick & easy for modern stuff is Gumshoe (Used in Mutant City Blues, Fear Itself and Trail of Cthulhu), but like i said, not actually played a game using the system, but its pretty rules light and easy to pick up from what i remember from reading it. Rules light is good.

Also, I havent done much by way of RP games lately, so I'd be quite up for joining in if theres space and so on, but no pressure if you have a group in mind already.

I have a 16 page booklet of the Cthulhu/Chaosium/BRP system which I can bring along on Monday.

Me fudge?  never Laughing

I run all of my games like that, the rules are a guide, if you do something clever,I give you a bonus.  If its blatently stupid then you get a penalty.

Silhouete is dead easy, and quick
