Magic the Gathering - Booster Draft Easter Monday April 25

There was alot of interest last night in the possibility of another Booster Draft.

So I thought I'd kick of discussion by proposing a date (the next bank holiday).

Sign up below and let's see how many are interested.

Very Happy  .

Sadly you kinda need to be a club 'regular' (I need to know who you are, if I'm going to do the fork out for a Booster Box/money thing).
metagaia

ooh interested!

Must strive to prevent a top three of Matt's once again Smile

Happy to pay up to about £10 if necessary  Very Happy

I think that we would be theoretically interested, or rather at least one of us would be able to come along. I'll have a chat to Shell and see what we think.
dedindahed

I'd be up for it
Mat

I'm in.
steph96

I think we'd be up for that, obviously depending on date, time and cost. Once that info is about we'll let you know for sure.

Cool

Stuff to be worked out:

    1. How we buy the packs.

    2. Which set?

    3. 1 or 3 rounds in each duel.

Anything else?

I’ll put up a poll for how we buy the packs first.

If we keep this as the sign up thread/general discussion thread, and keep the other threads specific to their topic, that would be delightful  Very Happy  .

I personaly would prefer not to use the same set as last time.
I also think it would be better to buy them as a collective rather than 3 packs each but I do not mind between those 2 options.

Ok, I've changed the vote to allow multiple choices.

If you could go back and vote again that would be great  Wink  .

Can I make a suggestion:

Rather than playing it as a knockout, would it be easier to run the tournament in a league style, as in, every-one plays one game against every other person, gets points for a win and the person at the end with the most points wins?

I think that might be fairer, so that people don't get knocked out after one bad game, but it might take longer.  Some-one more intelligent than me would need to think about the logistics of it.

Both Shell and me would be interested in joining in, but we need to find out if we can find a babysitter for that evening. If we can't then one of us will definately be along.

Edit: Oh yeah, suggestion number 2: When it comes to selecting a set, should we perhaps go for a set from the begining of a block? The set from last time was from the middle of a block, and it felt like there were a lot of cards that relyed on mechanics and card types that were not actually very common in that particular set. In my experience (although this is mostly from several years ago when I was playin more regularly), The sets at the start of a block seem to be more well balanced and the cards have a bit more variety.

I think I'm in Chester for the 25th, in which case I'd love to get involved. Round-robin league sounds like a perfect idea.
Teflon Billy

I'm fine with the round robin thing.

After a bit of googling I found this:

Seems to work ok.

Just thinking about timing:

A round robin for 10.

Each match-up: best out of three. We allow say 30 mins for ea. x 10  so around five hours.

Drafting say 30-60 mins

So approximately six hours needed in total.

Hard finish time at 10.30pm (metagaia's train).

Therefore need to start at 4.30.

All this is just me 'guesstimating' loosely based on the previous tournaments.

Does this all seem reasonable/do-able?
dedindahed

If we're aiming to do this in one evening, I'd strongly reccomend that we don't have all players play each other.

Whenever I've booster drafted at an official friday night event this has never happened.

3 rounds, randomly drawn, 3 points for a 2-0, 2 points for a 2-1, highest 4 scores go into a knockout.
HDimagination

sounds like a good idea, best of both worlds.

Thanks to Tess offering to babysit for us on the day, both shell and I will be able to come (barring any emergencies).

Cool

I'm fine with the FNM format.

So re-doing the timing thing:

So 3 random robin rounds  3x 30 mins.

Knockout for 4, i.e. 2 matches 2x 30 mins.

Drafting 30-60 mins

3.5 hours.

Allow some 'padding' time: start at 6.30?
