ManorconHow does playing board games for a whole weekend sound to you? If the answer is good, I suggest going to Manorcon, as it's probably the best board games convention in the UK.
For those who don't know what a con is, it's basically a load of people playing board games and having fun. Manorcon gets in the order of 100 people, all similar to the sort of people who go to the games club. It runs from 2pm Friday 17th July to Midday Monday 20th July, but you can go for as little as you like. Accomodation is provided in student rooms fairly cheaply - for example, if you book in advance you can get entry plus 3 night's accomodation for £98 (includes breakfasts).
It's in Leicester, which is relatively easy to get to(*). I will be going. If you want to know more, find me tonight (I should be coming), or google for manorcon.
Phil.
(*) Hidden agenda moment - If I can persuade one of you to go for the whole weekend and you'll be able to drive, can I have a lift?

How come nobody ever mentioned these before I had kids?

I have kids. Last year I had to be called back from Manorcon on the Friday night for the birth of number 2. But I managed to get back for the Sunday.
I should mention for those who are put off by the cost that the rooms do have space for one on the floor as well, if you are _really_ on a budget. Bring your own blow-up bed or just get too drunk to care. People have also been know to sleep in their cars.

Are you still with her?

Where did you find her? Any girls I know would murder husband/boyfriend for that.

I did exagerate slightly
I was only back for a 3 hour event on the Sunday afternoon (the treasure hunt) that I was co-running. I had spent (too) many hours writing it already so she let me go and run it too. Unfortunately it overran to 6 hours and I was late home
This year, however, I (almost certainly) won't be leaving mid-con to have another baby.

As I said, there's always the sleeping on the floor option for the seriously budget restricted. Or just not sleeping
