Phil Roberts here

Hi to all at CGC,

I am interested in attending one of your nights sometime soon. I'm 33 (not too sure if I'm too old for the club???) and currently play Battletech with a few friends. I would like to get into the world of D&D. I also have a friend called Andy (another Battletech head) who's also interested. We are based in warrington and Liverpool, and wouldn't mind a trip into sunny Chester....

Can anyone give me a few ideas as to what goes on at CGC and whether or not D&D or Battletech is on the agenda and if we would be welcome?

Thanks in advance

Phil  Very Happy

P.S. Found the site via a link on the meetup website

hey, d&d is a gmae thats played fairly regulary at the club. There was a maassive campaign on not to long ago but due to the best players charactor dieing it all fell apart and hasnt been the same since. (ill add that it has nothing to do with DMs wife having a baby!)
There isnt any D&D games being played at the moment but  there are a few in the line up to start.

Ill let someone else post something after me because theyll be clearer and more helpful.

Daz!

The club is mostly role playing, though there tends to be at least one boargame going most weeeks, there has been some tabletop & miniatures occasinally, but pretty rare, Although still welcome anytime.

There are a couple of battletech players at a thursday night group based at the airbus factory, broughton, they're called deeside defenders and a web search should throw something up if you're interested.

At 33 you're nowhere near the oldest person to have attended the club. There's plenty of people in their late twenties or thirties who come along (alas, I will move from the former category to the latter in less than a week).

People are always welcome to come along and play any role-playing, board, card or miniature games they want. I've not seen Battletech played at the club, but I've certainly heard a couple of people mention it.

D&D on the other hand is a regular fixture. I was running the 'massive campaign' that Daz mentioned until my wife had a baby about 5 months ago, and it's on long-term hold at the moment. I hope to either pick that one up again or run another D&D campaign in the not-too-distant future.

More immediately, I think either 'new Simon' (Teflon Billy) or Josh (Jimmy) will be running a D&D adventure when the RPGs start up properly on 31 March.

There are also plenty of other good RPGs that you may not have heard of, such as the Riddle of Steel & Forge, which have campaigns running or about to start.

I knew all that messing around with that bizarre site would pay off eventually! Cool

That's the most intelligent thing I think you've ever said Daz! Cool

hey, im a long distance member. im in australia for a while so with a bit of luck you'll be a regular by then. There is nobody even under 18 at the club so dont worry about age and we've had a few silver foxes in our time.

Thanks for the warm welcome. We'll get down to Chester sometime in April.

I'll let you know nearer the time.

Looking forward to meeting you all

Phil
Lannister Man

Im up for running a D&D game. We play in FR mainly although most settings are fine by us. We can talk about it when I come down in a couple of weeks.
lurcher

Excellent - Lannister Man. Your the guy based in Runcorn aren't you?

Looking forward to seeing you there. I'm a D&D novice, so you may need to give me a little guidance, sorry.
Teflon Billy

Hello Phil,

I'm a recent 'joiny' and I'm 37. Haven't found it to be a problem. Everybody has been very welcoming and accommodating.

Look forward to meeting you.

The other Simon.

Ive been going for over two years and they still bully me!
lurcher

Thanks for that Teflon and Haskeer.

I'm thinking of trying to get a few people interested in Battletch, when I come over. Are new games welcome?

Yes, as long as it's not 'pop up pirate'. Cool

I've not really kept up to date with Battletech over the last few years, is it still hex-based, colour in the dots for damage, like it used to be? I seem to remember it was going to be given the Heroclix treatment at one point. I'm not really into miniatures games these days, but I'd be tempted to have a go if nothing else was happening.

There is a Game Suggestions forum further down; you might try putting a post there and seeing what response you get.

Hi Matt,

We are sticking to the old 3025 period (ie FASA 1986-89). Using the cardboard mech counters, hex map boards and the 'colour in the dots' mech record sheets.

Thanks for your help.

And what's up with pop up pirate???? Very Happy
Dmon

Nothing up with Pop Up Pirate, even though it just isnt as good as Operation  Rolling Eyes

Its not that you are a veteran, its just that your an easy target Razz

Pretty much anyone is welcome at the club, we prefere over 18's, can accept over 16's providing they are sensible. You should be fine, we have plenty of 'old' people at the club.

Look forward to meeting you. We seem to be getting quite popular Very Happy

The legend of Pop Up Pirate started here I think. Daz has been trying to convince people to play it ever since; I'm not sure he's joking.
