Subsidised materials.

Just some thoughts on subsidised materials.

If subsidised board games must be brought to the club and made available (which is fair enough) we may need some controls in place with regards to damage/loss of peices.  If a group of players damage or lose parts to a boardgame, said group should collectively re-imburse the "keeper" of the game the amount they paid, if the keeper is unable to recoup from that party (they all dissapear) it's possible to allow the amount to be reimbursed from club funds (as long as club funds remain healthy)

I've seen people playing games with bits laying on the floor, and have heard of bits being lost, treating another person's property in this manner is completely unnacceptable IMO

For subsidised RPG materials we should keep a library of what has been subsised and make the material available on request, (with similar liabilty as per board games above)

Though I would say that RPG materials should be only subsidised once a GM and player group confirm they will be playing that particular scenario at the club, and no further materials should be bought by the same person untill that scenario has been concluded.

This I agree with completly. However I dont see how if you lend a game out and then dont touch it for 2 months how you prove that the pieces were lost then. I know (Dad) Mat has had this problem with games and I have with Settlers. No one is going to check the number of figures in each game every time they lend it out.

This comes back to the club owning materials. I have seen this before and it has never worked. I would not be happy with the club owning any gaming materials. Who is going to hold it when its not in use?

Agreed

By library of materials I meant an Online library of materials plus keeper, so you could request that the item be bought to the club, same could go with boardgames too I guess.

I see. No problems with that then.

In that case, I would propose that a similar measure goes in place for board games; that the board game will not be bought until it has at least the recommended number of players saying they will play it.

As far as I know that has always been the case just no one has really taken the offer up. There are games I would like to get that I know only one or two in the club might be interested in. I wouldnt bother bringing them up

Absolutely.
I only suggested BSG as at the moment the club is actively trying to reduce it's funds.
When we determine what measures we will take to prevent funds accumulation I guess we need to figure out a priority order for each item.

along the lines of
1) GM's go free
2) Subsidised funds for GM materials, as funds allow (i.e kitty over £60)
3) subsidised board games that 4+ people request
4) if funds still accumulate, free weeks until manageable level is reached
There's no reason we can't implement multiple solutions, as long as they are prioritised well, it may mean that certain ideas never actually get implemented, but we are prepared for situations where it's necessary.

(this is an example not me saying how things should be)

If we do decide we want an annual club funded meal we would also need a way to make sure we did have some accumulation, though dispersing the funds regularly in a manner that facilitates gaming seems to be a better use AFAIC.

The prioritisation idea is quite a nice one, I would dispute the order but I appreciate you put that only as an example.  We will also have to see how much money is remaining from the xmas meal (it will be user dependant) as to what board gams and RPGs are availible in the next month or so.

As a quick side note, is it possible to merge some of these threads at all?  I kinda feel like I am debating this issue across two separate threads and it is getting a little confusing.

I see your point; I just wanted each proposal to be discussed on its own merits. I don't think we're at the stage of voting on which is best just yet.
