i'm playing in Jacs d&d game and am trying to make my character fuller, give him more background etc.
Problem is i do not know the d&d world too well.

Does any body know of a descent website with good back ground info or resources on it. I have just spent 1hr googling variations and come with nothing to help.

Do you know which D&D world it is? There are several. The main two 'generic European fantasy' settings are:

Forgotten Realms: http://forgottenrealms.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page

But there are many others.
