Could we store a pin board or similar upstairs? If so I think that is a better plan in terms of games current / upcoming; as it can be up in the first room as people come in each week. We can also stick up 'post-its' of gms who can't attend unexpcetedly etc.
As members currently don't keep current games details up to date on the forum I think it is unrealistic to expect them to do a write up each week (or however often) for a newsletter. To scribble something on a board thats right there in front of everyone requires minimal effort and no memory.
If anyone would be willing to regularly write content for a newsletter please state in this thread, along with what content you would like to offer.
As I stated in my second post, it needn't be every GM doing a write up each week. We could have one person (I'd volunteer for this) go round and have a quick chat (just a minute or two) with the GMs and take notes. Then they'd produce something like this:
"This week Bob, Jim and Sally attempted to sneak into Lord Percy's stronghold. They met with an informant named Harry who showed them a secret passage but warned of a deadly guardian beast.
Moving foraward, they encountered the guardian, which they dicovered to be a kitten. Jim bravely sacrificed himself so Bob and Sally could escape. Despite being shaken by their companions death, The remaing two enlisted the aid of disgruntled guard Tim. Together Tim, Bob and Sally have broken into to the archives in order to discover Percy's evil plan.
(This is an ongiong game with space for two more players)" _________________ I'm here to kick ass and take names! If that's okay with everyone...
Some people have problems with using the forum, or don't log on. A Newsletter can be a digest of the most relevant news and an opportunity to make sure all the most important information goes out to everybody, and some people respond better to the format.
If the purpose of the Newsletter is to reach people who don't use the forums, then would an electronic format really acomplish that? Just a question. I'm not opposed to a newsletter, to be honest I'm pretty neutral on the matter.

There's a lot of stuff on the forums, and it's easy to miss stuff or spend too long browsing them. A short newsletter in the inbox is more likely to reach people - in much the same way that announcments on the facebook group work to direct people to important forum discussions.
I like the idea of a newsletter, but I think weekly would be way too often. If we get one it should be monthly, realistically. This wouldn't work well with the update of games which was suggested for missing players, but you cow,d have a summary for interested people not in the game.
We could put it on the website and email it to people. We could link to it from the forums (or post when it's updated). Whoever wants to could print out bits and keep a club board which they take to the club each week, and use the post-it idea as well for last minute updates.
I have a lot of puzzles and riddles etc we could include in a newsletter type thing.

I do like Tess' suggestion of a club noticeboard, however a newsletter could also reach members who may not be able to attend in a given week.
Perhaps a notice board could be used for topical points, apologies etc, and a monthly newsletter could be a review of anything interesting which has happened over the last month, introductions of new members and games, and any social events or things of interest which are coming up.
IF you choose to do a newsletter, I recommend Mail Chimp as a free newsletter service. I believe it integrates with Facebook, Twitter and other social networks too. _________________ Jar Jar, you're a genius
I think an electronic newsletter and a notice board are both good ideas, is there a reason we couldn't do both?
The notice board in particular would help with getting information to people who can't always check the forums about current and up coming games, along with contact information. If we had a message like 'New here? Welcome! Ask for <person X>' then this would possibly help with new people.
If we did go for this, I'd suggest a white board as 1) it won't be damaged by damp while a wooden board might, so it could be stored with our tables wherever and 2) if the pens go missing, someone else in club might have a spare dry erase marker. Thumb tacks or chalk aren't things we're likely to have spare. _________________ I'm a Matt. The sarcastic one if that helps.
There's been a lot of ideas for things the club could do, but yet to see much that you would expect to see in a news letter. And a severe lack of people wanting to write it.
Matt said he was happy doing write ups, however that's not what I would expect in a news letter.
Do we have any people in our club who are interested in writing and want to do something of this type? If not there's no point discussing what should be in it unless the club is willing to pay for someone to do it (I hope you all realise that paying someone a wage to publish a newsletter is a bad idea with all the costs and implications which that entails.)
