Hi, i've been browsing the forum and thought I'd say hello.

I've been a long time games player and closet geek (large warhammer collection hidden from the gf) who has recently gotten interested in trying out some RPGs and stumbled across your club online. I am from the Buckley area so getting to Chester would not be a problem for me, the fact you play board games as well is a huge bonus as a massive fan of Rab Florence and his boardgames ramblings.

You seem a friendly bunch so I thought i'd introduce myself and hopefully will get down to the club at some point over the next few months...if its ok I thought i'd lurk around the forums for a bit before building up the courage to come along on a monday!

Admins, bah possible board gamer, Dave get him. (jk)

Welcome to the boards, and hopefully to the club. Mostly a laid back bunch and we now meet at the Lloyds bar in Chester which means you can just use the excuse of "Just going the pub for a few pints with the lads" rather than "going boardgaming" as reason for the evening out Very Happy

Depending on the missus this might be a bad idea.

As one of "The Admins" Hi!

Hiya Red,

You don't need a lot of confidence to come along, we're a nice bunch and not too scary (this is the people, the games can be depending on your taste). If you prefer you can just sit and listen in for a few nights to get a feel for what goes on and where you would fit in - but you'll probably be pulled into something pretty quickly.

If you want to get to know people first you can always show up for a burger and a drink (£3.99) around half 6 and eat with the early rabble before we all seperate off to our games. You could be cheeky and take your missus out for a meal and then "Oh what a surprise..." get her into a boardgame!

Which ever way you do it it'll be good to see you whenever you make it down

The suprise boardgame? a bold move...

Thanks for the welcome guys, I wont be able to make tonight or next week but the week after may well be a possibility, with such friendly folks I am feeling a lot less circumspect about coming.

I may well try the whole 'drinks with the lads' excuse, as what better thing is there than a relationship based on white lies? She already thinks I am spending this weekend meeting up with old uni friends in Nottingham...whereas I am actually going to Warhammer world with some people I play computergames online with! I justify it by the fact that she just wouldn't understand the truth, and it would likely only upset her...

I'm already looking forward to coming along, and spending more time on the forums. Who knew such a cool little gaming club existed on my doorstep?

Just let your girlfriend know that gamers are cool (well, some of them - I'm not too sure Dead fits that category!!) and so gaming on a monday is far more socially acceptable than going for beer with the lads.

There tend to be less girls in gaming groups, but we tend to stay around 20-25% female attendance so we may be able to convince her over the the geek side eventually  Twisted Evil

Failing that, the club also has lads and beer, so you won't be lying - there just happens to be a pesky board game where you'd expect there to be a beer mat.

N.B: I do not recommend using a board game as a coaster/beer mat as this may cause death by Phil / Dave / Paz / etc...
